Активисты провели субботник в Гумистинском историко-культурном заповеднике «Уаз-абаа», в окрестностях руин одноимённой крепости XII-XIV вв.
Организатором акции выступила Ассоциация по правовой и социальной помощи российских соотечественников во главе с ее руководителем Владимиром Поповым.
В мероприятии приняли участие журналисты, историки, члены культурного фонда «Платформа» и обычные граждане страны.
«Эта акция является напоминанием о том, в какой уникальной стране с богатым историческим прошлым мы живём, какие многовековые исторические памятники нас окружают. Один из них – заповедник «Уаз-абаа». Мы должны это сохранять и передавать новым поколениям», – сказал Владимир Попов.
Крепость «Уаз-абаа» имела важное стратегическое значение. Местоположение крепости было выбрано неслучайно. Скала, на которой стоит укрепление, доминирует над близлежащими территориями, тем самым давая возможность заблаговременно узнать о вторжении врага и дать ему отпор. По сохранившимся руинам четко прослеживаются следы стены, некогда опоясывавшей крепость. В северной части крепости вздымаются в небо на высоту 18 метров стены боевой башни, очевидно, главного оборонительного здания всего комплекса. Вторая башня, к сожалению, плохо сохранилась. Но по дожившим до наших дней руинам можно сделать вывод, что здесь располагался тайный ход из крепости к ручью, которым пользовался гарнизон во время осады.
В своё время крепость и близлежащую территорию основательно исследовал известный абхазский историк-краевед Юрий Воронов.
