Мероприятия, приуроченные ко Дню народного единства РФ, прошли в понедельник в Московском культурно-деловом центре «Дом Москвы» в Сухуме.
В них приняли участие старшеклассники школ города Сухум.
В рамках празднования прошел мастер-класс «История пяти картин» на тему Минин и Пожарский, который провела директор Центрального выставочного зала Союза художников Абхазии Эльвира Арсалия и лекция старшего преподавателя кафедры истории АГУ Альдоны Салакая «Роль Минина и Пожарского в истории России». После этого организаторы показали школьникам советский исторический художественный фильм 1939 года «Минин и Пожарский» по повести Виктора Шкловского «Русские в начале XVII века».
В финале мероприятия гостям вручили памятные подарки и провели для них праздничный фуршет.
День народного единства стал в России официальным праздником в 2005 году. Он был учрежден в память о событиях 1612 года, когда народное ополчение под предводительством Кузьмы Минина и князя Дмитрия Пожарского освободило Москву от польских интервентов. Ополченцы штурмом взяли Китай-город 22 октября. Именно эта дата — 22 октября по юлианскому календарю, или 4 ноября по григорианскому — была выбрана в качестве дня государственного праздника.
